Special Rides

Special/novelty rides coming up (see below)
Special or novelty rides are organised throughout the summer riding season to provide something different.  Rides typically explore areas further afield or include a different riding experience.  Special rides tend to be very popular so members are advised to register their interest online as soon as possible after registration opens.  Entry to rides is normally closed when numbers reach 12 riders.

First Aid Course: 30th May 2018
In the light of Steve T's recent accident and the role John M's first aid training played in averting a tragedy a first aid course for CER and other cyclists is being arranged.  John M is doing the organising assisted by other members.  The event is planned for May probably in Chester.

John Mills writes:
There has been considerable interest in the proposed First Aid presentation to be given by Steve Evans MBE, a cyclist and retired para medic.  We will be joined by members of Simply Grey Cycling Club.
The First Aid Session will be held at Northgate Church Hall, Chester on Wednesday 30th May commencing at 19:00 hours. The presentation will last for approximately 90 minutes.  A contribution to cover the costs of CER members will be met by CER from accumulated funds.
There are only a few places left so if anyone else wishes to attend please confirm as soon as possible.

So far the following Easy Riders have confirmed their interest: Jim, Ken, Brian Mac, Mike G, John B, John M, Steve H, Ray, Nick, Keith, George, Ivan, Dave H,

Confirmation awaited: Andy B, John W.

10th Anniversary Special Ride April 26th: Chester and the Wirral

It was on April 24th in 2008 that Bryan led out five riders on the inaugural CER ride to Frankby. To recognise our 10 years as a successful “easy riding” club, Bryan has kindly agreed to lead out essentially the same ride as part of our celebrations of 10 very successful years.

Bryan writes:
Join me on the 26th April as we retrace the route of CER’s inaugural ride.  We meet at the Chester Little Roodee for a prompt 9:45 start with elevenses at Ness Gardens.  The ride itself will be a gentle easy paced ride following the original route out through Blacon, Saughall and Two Mills via Lodge Lane.  Here we take the new farm bridge over the A494, rather then shouldering bikes for a dash across the dual carriageway as we did on the first ride.  On leaving Ness we follow the Wirral Way to Caldy before turning inland for lunch at The Farmers Arms now The Old Rathbone pub in Frankby where lunch is booked for 12:30.
The return ride will follow the original route as far as Willaston but will then head back to Ness Gardens for afternoon tea (as the original tea stop has now closed).  The final leg back to Chester will cross Burton Marshes and then follow the Greenway.  Overall distance about 45 miles.

See the original ride description on the blog at http://chestereasyriders.blogspot.co.uk/2008/12/inaugural-ride-24th-april-2008-frankby.html

Demand for this ride is high so register your interest by leaving a comment below or contact Bryan or Steve T.  Lunch numbers for the pub need to be confirmed by Monday 23rd April.

  1. I'm planning to come and hopefully on my bike, if not by car.

  2. As Graham was on that first ride and was an easy rider regular until life intervened, we hope to join you on the tandem.
